This past summer, our wildflower garden welcomed its first Monarch butterflies, which was a great surprise! I used to believe that starting a wildflower garden was as simple as scattering some seeds and waiting for the magic of wildflowers to appear. This past summer, our wildflower garden welcomed its first Monarch butterflies, which was a great surprise! I used to believe that starting a wildflower garden was as simple as scattering some seeds and waiting for the magic of wildflowers to appear. With luck this might be true, but I've learned that this mostly is not the case. Wildflower gardens require careful planning, preparation, and an ongoing effort to establish and maintain a healthy garden. However, once established, it will reward you with a variety of native flowers, grasses, and wildlife visitors through the seasons. This year, I was thrilled to have our garden certified as a National Wildlife Federation Habitat.
